Environmental protection, health education, the fight against discrimination, the promotion of Third World development programmes and support for education and scientific research: MEDIA CONSULTA's (MC) takes over corporate social responsibility (CSR).
At MC, social ethics are not merely a convenient image-boosting tool, they are the genuine basis for our corporate conduct. We always decline business offers that are in conflict with these ideals. For example, we do not work on advertisements or PR campaigns on behalf of the tobacco industry or for environmentally harmful products and organisations. Although MEDIA CONSULTA passes up the opportunity of lucrative business by declining to work for these clients, it also makes every effort to secure public affairs accounts with clients who share its socio-political aims.
In April 2008, CEO Harald Zulauf personally signed up for MC membership of the United Nations CSR initiative, the Global Compact, at the United Nations in New York. This means that MC officially supports the ten principles of the GC initiative, whose goal it is to promote sustainable economic management. With our participation in the UN Global Compact we are committing ourselves, amongst other things, to protecting international human rights, to creating socially compatible working conditions as well as to promoting environmental protection and fighting corruption.
By joining the Global Compact, Harald Zulauf, himself a long-standing member of the IBLF, the International Business Leaders Forum for sustainable economic management, is further extending the CSR agenda of the worldwide agency network.

MEDIA CONSULTA, as the only network that is represented in all 27 countries of the European Union, is very committed to European thinking. Therefore, MC has been delegated by the European Commission to attend to the 2008 “European Year of Intercultural Dialogue”.
As a contribution to understanding among nations, MC sponsored the German-Chinese art competition “Against Forgetting. 60 years after the Holocaust in Germany and the Massacre of Nanjing” in 2006, in which art students from both countries participated. The Chinese winners of the competition were invited to MC in Germany for a three-month agency internship.
MC is also demonstrating similar commitment in 2008: the agency has been delegated by the Federal Government to organise a German-Israeli film contest for young directors on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel.
Together with our established global agencies network, we have developed the MC Network Exchange Programme, an active exchange programme for our employees, which promotes the international transfer of information.

MEDIA CONSULTA supports the eight millennium goals, which were passed by the 55th General Assembly of the United Nations in the year 2000 in New York. All participating heads of state and government agreed on a raft of measures which, besides the principal goal of cutting poverty by 50 percent by the year 2015, also includes the intensified advancement of education in the Third World.
Since 2007, the MC Network has taken over the financing of a new school in this poverty-stricken continent as part of the “Schools for Africa” Campaign. “Children are the future of every country and education is the key – in Africa too. In the Nelson Mandela Foundation and in UNICEF we have found ideal partners to help us sustain a long-term contribution to the development of Africa and expand our social commitment,” says MC CEO Harald Zulauf. Within the framework of the “Schools for Africa” Campaign children also receive books, pencils and school materials, whilst teachers receive training.
Moreover, MC developed the official logo of the German “One World” development aid programme for the Federal Government as well as the logo of “Aktion Afrika” for the Federal Foreign Office in 2008.

A joint initiative organised between Media Consulta and Credit Europe Bank as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility programs for 2008 saw 44 children from Angela House treated to a fun afternoon of bowling followed by a small party with food and drinks. For a majority of the children, this was their first time at a bowling alley.
The outing was arranged over two separate afternoons, because of the large number of children who wanted to take part. They were accompanied by nuns and helpers from the Ursuline Sisters Complex in Gwardamangia, of which Angela House forms part. A combined team of staff from Media Consulta and Credit Europe Bank met with the kids at the Eden Superbowl and formed teams with the children. The play went on enthusiastically with some talent and plenty of raw energy unleashed on the lanes. To wrap up a special afternoon with the kids, Credit Europe Bank presented a back-pack filled with gifts to each of the children in attendance.
Media Consulta and Credit Europe Bank wish to express their gratitude to all their staff that supported the event and gave up their time for what proved to be a very worthwhile, fun and rewarding afternoon. Members of the team have pledged to carry on supporting Angela House in the valuable work they do with their kids.
Media Consulta`s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility saw the company’s staff take part in a tree planting exercise recently at the Foresta 2000 site on Marfa Ridge, near the Red Tower.
This event was in support of Foresta 2000, the project set up by BirdLife Malta in collaboration with Din l-Art Helwa and PARC.
Each member of Media Consulta’s team planted a pine tree in an area being developed by Foresta 2000 into a Mediterranean forest in order to enhance Malta’s natural beauty, to sustain important indigenous fauna and flora and to become a place of interest for Maltese and foreigners visiting the island.
The CEO of Media Consulta International, Mr. Harald Zulauf, was present for this event having just flown in to Malta, and he planted the first tree. Together with Mr. Andrew Warrington, Managing Director of Media Consulta in Malta, Mr. Zulauf was delighted to present a donation to Foresta 2000.
Media Consulta takes its Corporate Social Responsibility seriously and is planning more events to take place throughout the year. Mr. Warrington commented, “I am impressed with the way our team has embraced the importance and the spirit, of CSR. It is something we started to develop at the beginning of this year and it has really taken off. We have already donated blood at the Malta Blood Donors Association. Since January 2008 we separate all our paper waste and deliver it to the Wasteserv recycling plant in Mriehel. We’re now planning further activities and initiatives, both as one-off events and ongoing policies.”

In September 2009 one of our employees Karl Camenzuli will be taking part in the Kilimanjaro Challenge a monumental expedition to the summit of the highest free-standing mountain on the planet standing at 5, 895 metres. The aim is to raise funds towards the financing of various humanitarian projects involving children under the age of 12 in Ethiopia. The event is organized by Reaching Out who acts as a support group to the ‘Missionary Movement – Jesus in Thy neighbour’, run by Monsignor George Grima. 3 years have elapsed since Reaching Out was first launched and in this span of time, the charity has contributed in excess of a quarter of a million euros. To note that absolutely none of the funds collected through are efforts are ‘lost’ in administration. Every last cent gathered is directed towards our projects, making Reaching Out rather unique from this point of view. All costs from simple stationery all the way to travel expenses to Ethiopia are absorbed by group members through their own pocket rather than from hard-earned funds! Media-Consulta Malta have offered to provide all design work as well as a large donation to help with the challenge.
